Continental dining along the Atlantic Seaboard
Picture the cool breeze coming from the ocean as you melt away a sunny day dining at this seaside eatery.
Strolla Restaurant and Bar is found just off Seapoint's busy main road, which means you won't be competing with the deafening traffic when you sit for a meal or a couple rounds of cocktails at dusk. But don't misunderstand, this popular coastal location is almost always fully booked, so you'll have to call ahead to avoid disappointment.
Inside is a saloon of velvet couches, the colours matching the crystal blue Atlantic and the blush pink molluscs caught along the coast. The three alfresco dining areas are peppered with beach umbrellas that provide shade when the sun beats down a little too enthusiastically.
We stumble into Stolla after spending a slow Sunday on Clifton 3rd beach. A few bottles of Methode Cap Classique (MCC) are ordered to start. Being a big group, we decide to order a couple of pizzas and platters to suit everyone's taste. It's impossible not to gorge ourselves on the perfectly crispy, thin-based chicken & mushroom- and Moroccan lamb pizzas. The chicken and lamb are tender, despite having spent time in the pizza oven melting under a healthy coating of mature cheddar cheese. The non-meat eaters tuck into flavourful caprese- and aubergine & olive pizzas.
Lazing in the sun like African Penguins after lunch, we let our ambitious starter settle before tackling the next course. What follows are generous platters of chili poppers (a Cape Town classic), chicken and beef sosaties, nachos, sticky bbq chicken wings and deep-fried onion rings. We greedily dip all these morsels into the accompanying chakalaka and chutney provided.
The Strolla staff are incredibly understanding with our rowdy group. Our brave waitress is always within earshot when we needed more bubbles, shots and glasses of water.
This funky seaside eatery is a local favourite for a reason. It provides a laid-back atmosphere in a sophisticated setting and we would love to return if Strolla would be silly enough to let us

If you're craving the best that comes from the seaside, my review of the Maputo Fish Market will get your mouth watering. I also got to taste a few dishes at Solo Restaurant in Cape Town, click here to see how I fared.
